Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship Program students will need to comply with the following terms;
- You can be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in order to apply for the VGS.
- You can also be an international student and apply for the scholarship.
- You must be applying for the Ph.D. degree program.
- You must apply as a full-time student at one of the Canadian universities/institutes.

- You must be applying for the first-ever Ph.D. of your educational journey.
- You must not be receiving any other scholarship or fellowship from these Canadian agencies such as; SSHRC, CIHR, or NSERC.
- You must have obtained a first-class average in the past two years of your studies.
- You can also apply for joint professional degree programs including; MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD.
- You must have a significant research component in the research proposal.
- You must not belong to an institute that has already Vanier Quota instead you can take a leave from the Ph.D. program from that institute.
- Students will disability or other issues may apply as part-time students.
- You can apply if you are a Canadian Government employee and take unpaid leave.
