In collaboration with The People’s Republic of China, UNESCO recently announced “The Great Wall Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme” for international students from 135 developing countries covering Asia-Pacific, Europe, Arab Regions, Africa, and Latin America. A total number of 75 fellowships will be awarded for the session 2025-2026.
The fellowship positions are available for students and researchers to pursue postgraduate studies (Masters, PhD) or research in one of the participating Chinese Institutes. The degree programs are available in English and Chinese language. The duration of the degree programs ranges from 1-5 years, subject to the availability of study programs. The fellowship covers all the costs related to the degree programs, including tuition fees, monthly stipends, accommodation, medical insurance, and much more. Fellowship Objective
The aim of the UNESCO-China Co-Sponsored Fellowship Programme 2025-26 is to promote human resource development & international exchange in culture, science, technology, and education and foster friendship among people worldwide.
Eligibility Criteria:
Nationality:
The fellowship is accepting applications from the citizens of 135 developing countries covering Africa, Asia Pacific, Arab states, Europe,e and Latin America
Age Requirement:
- General Scholars with a high school diploma must be under 45 years of age
- Senior Scholar holding master’s degree or associate professor below 50 years of age
- Master’s degree: Applicants holding bachelor’s degree and under 35 years of age
- PhD: Applicants holding a Masters degree and under 40 years of age
Language
- English Taught Programs: Proficiency is required
- Chinese Taught Programs: HSK Level 3 or 4 is required
Degree Duration:
- Visiting Scholars: 1 year
- Masters Degree: 2 Years
- PhD Degree: 5 Years

Fellowship Coverage
The host organization fully supports the fellows throughout the degree program; the coverage includes:

- Step 3: Complete your online application via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System
- Step 4: Now you need to submit your application to the National Commission for UNESCO in your home country
- Step 5: Nominated applicants must submit their documents via email to thegreatwall@unesco.org.
Note: The applicants nominated by the National Commission will be only considered for the fellowship.
