    What is a Norway Work Visa 2023?

    A document or a sort of permission which allows foreign nationals to enter Norway and start living and working there. Once you get a job from an employer in Norway, you apply for a visa, which gives you a Norwegian Residence Permit for work, and you get to work in the country legally.

    Who is Eligible for Norway work visa?

    If a person fulfills the following requirements, then he/she is eligible to apply for Norway Work Visa;

    You must obtain one of these qualifications:

    • Applicants must complete their higher education before applying.
    • Applicants must complete their vocational education.
    • If applicants have a special education that makes him/her qualify for the job, they can apply for a work visa regardless of education.

    And:

    • You got a job offer from an employer in Norway.
    • The job you got is full-time work.
    • The job pays the average salary, just like the Norwegian citizens.
    • You are 18 or above 18 years old.
    • You have a clean criminal background.

    Norway Work Visa Requirements

    You need the following documents during the process of application, and the following documents must be handed over to the authoritative body;

    • A valid passport
    • Submit a photocopy of all the used passport pages.
    • Norway application form (available on the UDI website)
    • Two passport-size photographs with white background
    • Proof of accommodation in Norway
    • The form of employment offer (available on the UDI website)
    • Proof of salary that meets the income requirement
    • Proof of academic qualifications (certificates/diplomas)
    • Proof of previous experience (must include the type of job/duration of job/qualifications)
    • CV/Resume
    • Power of attorney form (available on UDI website)
    • You must translate the documents into English or Norwegian, if in any other language.

    The embassy may ask you for some additional documents.

    How to Apply Norway Work Visa?

    There are the following ways of applying for a Norway work visa, such as;

    • Apply from your home country
    • Apply from Norway
    • Apply through Norwegian Employer

    Apply from home country:

    If you are applying by yourself from your home country, then you need to do the following things;

    • Gather all supporting and necessary documents
    • Complete the application from the UDI website and download it.
    • Submit the application form and other documents to the nearest Norway embassy in your country or to some Visa Application Centre.
    • After that, the embassy or VAC will forward your documents and application to the UDI in Norway.

    Apply from Norway:

    If you are already in Norway and want to apply for a work visa, then you must follow the following method of applying;

    • Collect all supporting and necessary documents
    • Complete the application form available on the UDI website
    • Apply for the Residence Permit and Protection Services of the Norwegian police or a Service Center for Foreign Workers (SUA). It depends on the location and district of your residence.
    • Now, the SUA or police will transfer the application to the UDI.

    There is also a short-term entry visa for Norway through which you can enter the country and submit the documents but can’t work unless the work visa is issued.

    Apply through Norwegian employer:

    If you give permission to the employer to apply on your behalf, then the process is as follows;

    • Collect the necessary documents
    • Complete the online application form on the UDI website
    • Send all copies of the document to your employer and submit a power of attorney in which you state that you give full authority to your employer to apply on your behalf.
    • The employer will hand over the application to the Resident Permit and Protection Services of the Norwegian Police or SUA.
    • The police of SUA will transfer the application to the UDI.

    NOTE: you must register yourself with the local police services and get your residence card within the first week. Before leaving your home country, you can make an appointment through the UDI website.

    Norway Work Visa Processing Time

    The processing time for a Norway work visa after you submit the application is up to 8 weeks.

    Work Visa Fee of Norway.

    The fee for a Norway work visa is NOK 6,300 (USD 690). The same fee amount will also be taken during the renewal of the Norway work visa. You may be charged more if you apply through Visa Application Centre (VAC) rather than an embassy.

    Validity of Norway Work Visa 2023.

    The validity of the Norway Work Visa is two years. You can further renew the visa for additional two years. Once you stay for up to three continuous years in Norway, you can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit and live in Norway indefinitely.

    Renewal Process of Norway Work Visa

    You can renew your work visa at least one month prior to its expiration by applying online on the UDI website. After that, book an appointment with the Police and submit the documents. You may start applying for three months to avoid waiting for the appointment. You will need the following documents during the renewal process of the Norway work visa;

    • Passport
    • Cover letter
    • Employment offer form
    • Proof of last three wages
    • Any additional document required by the UDI website.

    Can you bring your family member on a Norway Work Visa?

    Yes, you can apply for your family members to join you in Norway once you get your work visa. The visa is called Norway Family Visa. The following family can apply for a visa and join you in Norway;

    • Spouse
    • Your cohabitant (at least lived for two years together)
    • Your children below 18 years
    • If you have children over 18 years then they must meet the criteria mentioned below;
    • Must be between 18-21 and unmarried and have had a previous resident permit in Norway.
    • The child is dependent as a result of health issues.

    Your earnings must be at least NOK 264 264 annually pre-tax (appx. USD 29,000), before bringing your family members.
